You can access the INTERMATIK site either on a McIntosh or an IBM compatible computer.
As a student of German 102, you need to register in order to have access to the grammar. You can register from any computer on campus. Once you are registered, the site can be used from computer stations on or off campus.
The grammar will track all of the work you are doing. It is therefore important, that you always log on with your name and password. The exercise scores and the answers of your free response exercises will be stored under the name with which you logged on. As an outside person, you may log on as a guest. Below are some general instructions on how to make an accented character on a MacIntosh, followed by a table summarizing ways to make other characters in the same manner. You may wish to print this page for facilitated reference while using INTERMATIK. To illustrate how accents may be produced in the Mac OS, let us trace through an example of how to produce the character ü. To produce ü, you have to use the sequence ([option] + [u], then "u"). That means you hold (and continue to hold) the key labeled "option" while you then press the "u" key and let go. Then you type the letter "u" normally. To have an umlaut to an uppercase letter, you would follow the same process of holding down the option key and pressing the "u" key, but you would then have to type a capital letter (hold the option key down and type the letter you want to capitalize). Summarized below are accents encountered in German, along with the shortcuts to produce them in Mac OS.
