The clause containing
the subordinating conjunction (the dependent clause) may
precede or follow the main clause.
Compare the following examples. In
the first example, the dependent clause follows the main
clause. In the second example, the dependent clause precedes
the main clause.
Er raucht
sehr viel, obwohl
es
ungesund ist.
He smokes a lot although it is unhealthy.

Now compare the word order in both examples. - Within the subordinating clause, the conjugated verb is in last position
- When the subordinating clause begins the sentence, it will end with the conjugated verb. The verb of the main clause will follow the comma.
