G. The conjunctions "wenn" and "als" (die Konjunktionen "wenn" und "als")

Wenn and als are both translated as "when" in English.

Wenn is used in a subordinating clause which describes a single event or repeated events in the past as well as repeated events in the present.

Wenn (Immer wenn) sie zum Arzt geht, bekommt sie eine Spritze gegen ihre Allergie.
When (every time when) she sees the doctor, she gets a shot for her allergies.

When (every time when) she went to the doctor, she got a shot for her allergies.

Als is used in a subordinating clause which describes a single event in the past. This past event may describe a moment or short event (When I woke up this morning...) or refer to a longer period of time (When I was a child...).

Als ich ein kleines Kind war, durfte ich wegen meiner Allergie keine Katze haben.
When I was a small child, I was never allowed to have a cat because of my allergies.
